Medellin
It is eclectic, contemporary, sexy and progressive and stunningly set amongst the mountains of Antioquia, Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia and regarded as one of the most important, in business, politics, fashion and nightlife!
For years Medellin had a tarnished reputation, but in a truly remarkable turnaround has now risen above this and is now one of most exciting cities in South America. This is a city where business is taken seriously but its inhabitants are equally famous for their sense of pride and jovial nature. The music of Tango spills out from the numerous bars and dance halls competing with the sensuality of salsa, whilst the annual Christmas lights out dazzle anywhere in the world and the Flower Festival in August is a carnival atmosphere with its spectacular parades of paso fino horses, vintage cars and flowers.
The city is also the home town of Fernando Botero, probably Colombia’s most recognised artist to date. His oversized depictions of Colombian life, people and world issues are exhibited in the Museo de Antioquia the neighbouring Parque Berrio. Surrounding the city are delightful colonial towns set amongst the lush green mountains.
Medellin is rapidly becoming a must on any Colombian itinerary and can be enjoyed by taking a guided tour using the city’s metro and cable car system.
